Aluminum frame
A metal frame — strong and slim, but the worst insulator of the common materials, because aluminum conducts heat and cold straight through.
What it means for you
Mostly wrong for NC homes without a thermal break: a bare aluminum frame is a thermal bridge that sweats and bleeds energy in our humidity. Its legit uses are big architectural spans and some coastal impact products, not the standard replacement window.
Where you'll see it
Large and commercial openings and some coastal lines; rare on residential replacement quotes.
Don't be fooled
“Aluminum is stronger” is true and beside the point for energy — even thermally broken, it trails vinyl and fiberglass on insulation.
