Awning window
A sash hinged at the top that cranks outward, so the open glass forms a little “awning.”
What it means for you
The one you can leave open in a light NC rain — the glass sheds water away from the opening. It seals tight like a casement. It often won't satisfy egress on its own, so treat it as a companion window, not a bedroom's only escape.
Where you'll see it
Above doors and picture windows, in bathrooms, and paired high on a wall for airflow.
