French door
A patio (or interior) door of one or two panels that swing open on hinges from the center, meeting at an astragal.
What it means for you
The widest, most impressive opening and often the tightest seal (compression weatherstrip plus multi-point locks) — but it needs real swing clearance, roughly a couple of feet of clear floor for a standard set. The astragal seam is the watch point for air and security.
Where you'll see it
Patio and garden entries where looks and a wide opening matter; priced above a slider.
Also sold as: hinged patio door
