Soffit
“SOFF-it”
The underside panel of a roof overhang or porch ceiling, usually vented to let the attic breathe.
What it means for you
Part of the roof-and-siding system and a key to attic ventilation and moisture control — blocked or missing soffit venting can cook an attic and invite moisture problems. Vinyl or aluminum soffit and fascia often get replaced together with siding.
Where you'll see it
Under the eaves; commonly bundled into a siding or roofline quote.
