Triple-pane
Three panes with two gas-filled gaps, instead of the standard two panes and one gap.
What it means for you
In NC this is a noise-and-comfort upgrade, not an energy one. A good Low-E double-pane already handles our cooling-dominated climate; the third pane mainly cuts sound (~8–10 dB) and cold spots, and its energy payback can stretch past the seal's own life. Buy it by the room for noise, not whole-house for a chart.

Don't be fooled
“Triple-pane saves more energy” is technically true and practically marginal in NC — ask for the noise reason, not the energy chart.
